My story is about health, healing, and the power of persistence.
When I was just a year old, my parents took me on a summer trip to Wildwood. One night, my mom noticed I was struggling to breathe—my face was blue. I was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with pneumonia. They gave me antibiotics, oxygen, and fluids—nothing worked. A priest came in to give me last rites. My mother refused to accept that. She demanded I be transferred. We sped to another hospital, and that’s where I started getting better—same treatment, but a different mindset. They didn’t give up on me. That moment taught me something I’d carry for the rest of my life: healing begins with hope and the refusal to quit.
When I was six, I broke my leg and doctors discovered something worse—fibrous dysplasia of the bone. I spent months in full body casts, braces, and dealt with constant fractures. At one point, a doctor told my parents to put me in a home for disabled children. My parents didn’t listen. They found a surgeon who gave them hope. He rebuilt my femur using hip bone, cadaver bone, and a metal rod. Since then, I’ve only fractured once in nearly 40 years.
After the surgery, I didn’t just want to be better—I wanted to be strong. At 15, I became obsessed with health. I worked out for hours, studied nutrition, and trained myself to walk and run again. I even asked for a juicer in 1978 so I could make healthy juices by the gallon.
Eventually, my mother suggested I try chiropractic. I was hesitant—after years of doctors, I was done. But after my first adjustment, I felt something shift immediately.
That weekend, I ran with my dog on the beach, really ran, for the first time. The chiropractor handed me a small green book, and I read it in one sitting. The message was clear: the body heals itself with the right help. It was everything I had come to believe on my own.
Chiropractic gave me the final piece of my healing. It aligned with everything I had already discovered: movement, posture, mindset, and structure matter. Alignment matters. Healing is real.
That’s why I became a chiropractor. Because I’ve lived it.
